The 1" to 1.5" showy, yellow flowers are a welcome sign of spring and large patches can be found in suitable locations. It prefers to have its roots constantly wet, and it is often found near moving water (either streams or ground seepage). Although it sometimes grows in shaded spots, it does best in full to part sun.
